PRIMER FOR INTUMESCENT PAINTS KM I-CHAR 21 – KM I-CHAR 22
Code:
KM I-PRIMER 036 KM I-PRIMER 3500
KM I-PRIMER 036 guarantees a cost-effective solution for steel in non-aggressive environments PRIMER KM-I PRIMER 3500 improves the adhesion of intumescent paint on concrete and masonry. They are all tested and compatible with our intumescent paints.
KM I-PRIMER 036 is a fast drying one-pack primer. The anticorrosive properties and the good adhesion on steel and galvanized steel make it a valid and convenient solution for the most common use of intumescent paints.
KM I-PRIMER 3500 is a primer suitable for the deep impregnation of concrete substrates, masonry and all porous mineral substrates. Improves adhesion and reduces absorption of intumescent paint. ISO 12944 defines classes of corrosion resistance of coated steel under different environmental conditions. Classes from C1 to C5 range from heated building interiors to industrial or marine environments with aggressive atmospheres or high salinity. ETAG 018 published by EOTA regulates the use of intumescent coatings by classifying exposure, durability and the use of primers and related finishes. An intumescent paint should be tested for its fire performance with different primers. Common types of primers are defined (short-medium oil alkyd, ...) so that compatibility with the chosen paint is certified.
KM I-PRIMER 036
Anticorrosive primer for construction and industrial applications. Extensively fire tested with KM I-CHAR 21 and KM I-CHAR 22 compatible according to ETAG 018. Its alkyd composition guarantees easy application, with good impregnation of the substrate, while the phenolic modification guarantees adhesion and resistance to saponification on both electrolytic and hot zinc, and greater chemical resistance. Zinc phosphate provides anti-corrosion properties with a lead and chromate-free composition. The good quality/price ratio of the product and its rapid drying make it a valid solution for most applications of intumescent systems, particularly for indoor environments.
KM I-PRIMER 3500
Water-based, ultrafine particle size acrylic primer; provides deep impregnation of the substrate. Used for porous substrates, with resistance to alkalinity. KM I-PRIMER 3500 improves the adhesion of the subsequent layer of paint and increases the cohesion to the substrate of concrete, reinforced concrete, masonry. The saturation of the porosity of the substrate is guaranteed by a lower water absorption during the application of the paint, increasing the application time. Dilute as prescribed and apply in the correct amount to obtain saturation of the substrate, avoiding excessive application. After drying, no film should appear on the surface. Specifically fire tested according to EN 13381-3 for the perfect functionality of KM I-CHAR 21.
USE AND APPLICATION
Adequate preparation of the substrate is required, with manual or mechanical cleaning and removal of loose particles. Degrease with suitable solvents or detergents if necessary, then leave to dry completely. Steel surfaces will normally be sandblasted SA274. Galvanized surfaces should be lightly passivated and not too bright, and excess white zinc oxide powder removed. Mineral substrates must be perfectly clean and free from dust. All products must be thoroughly mixed and diluted as prescribed. The application should normally be done in one coat. The tools must be cleaned with solvent (KM I-PRIMER 036) or with water (KM-PR5).
Appropriate environmental conditions should be in place during application and drying.
